Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNS): Independent MLA from Surankote, Chowdhary Mohammed Akram, on Friday called upon National Conference and Independent legislators to stand united behind Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's government, warning against what he described as attempts to create political confusion and instability in Jammu and Kashmir.
Akram said the prevailing political situation demanded unity among elected representatives, stressing that political differences should not be allowed to undermine the larger interests of the people.
He maintained that the Omar Abdullah-led government represented not only an elected administration entrusted with development but also the secular values, pluralistic traditions and distinct regional identity of Jammu and Kashmir.
“At this critical time, our priority should be to strengthen democratic institutions, uphold secular values and work collectively for the aspirations of our people. Political differences should not be allowed to undermine the broader interests of Jammu and Kashmir,” Akram said.
The Surankote legislator alleged that divisive forces were attempting to create confusion, mistrust and political instability, and urged elected representatives to resist such attempts collectively.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
His remarks come amid heightened political attention following the recent expansion of the Omar Abdullah-led cabinet and discussions surrounding the composition of the Council of Ministers.
Akram emphasised that elected representatives, irrespective of their political affiliations, had a responsibility to safeguard democratic institutions and ensure that governance remained focused on public welfare.
He urged National Conference legislators and Independent MLAs in particular to rise above individual political considerations and extend constructive support to the government.
The legislator said political stability was essential for accelerating development, addressing public grievances and protecting Jammu and Kashmir's distinctive identity.
He reiterated that unity among elected representatives would be crucial in safeguarding the region's secular character, strengthening democratic institutions and advancing the aspirations of its people. (KNS)
