Govt orders improved animal care, heating at Tengpora ABC facility

Mandeep Kaur directs uninterrupted supply of medicines, adequate feed and strict hygiene ahead of winter

Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNS): With temperatures declining across Kashmir, the government on Friday directed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to strengthen heating arrangements, maintain adequate food stocks and ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines at the Animal Birth Control (ABC) facility in Tengpora.

Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Mandeep Kaur issued the directions during an inspection of the facility, where she reviewed its functioning, infrastructure and arrangements for the care of animals housed there.

Accompanied by SMC Commissioner Dr Basharat Qayoom, Kaur assessed the facility's preparedness for colder weather, particularly the availability of essential supplies and measures to protect animals from low temperatures.

She directed officials to ensure sufficient feed stocks and proper heating arrangements, stressing that the welfare of animals must not be compromised by shortages of essential supplies or inadequate infrastructure.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The Commissioner Secretary also called for strict sanitation and hygiene standards, including regular cleaning and proper maintenance of all sections of the facility.

Officials were instructed to monitor day-to-day operations closely, replenish medicines and other essential supplies on time and address operational shortcomings without delay.

Kaur emphasised that animal welfare required sustained supervision and accountability, directing the concerned officers to ensure that the facility remained adequately equipped and functional.

The inspection also covered the upkeep of infrastructure and the arrangements necessary for the smooth functioning of the animal birth control programme.

Joint Commissioner (Administration), Joint Commissioner (Works), Executive Engineers and other senior SMC officials were present during the inspection. (KNS)
