Delegation Advocates for Gender Equity and Institutional Reforms to Support Women in the Legal Profession

Srinagar, May 19 (KNS) : A delegation from the Women Lawyers Association, led by its President Advocate Heena Sultan, accompanied by Advocates Advocate Arti, Advocate Sakeena Nazir, Advocate Farhat Mustafa and Advocate Suwaiba, along with male members promoting gender equity Advocate Parray and Advocate Abass Qadir, met the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh at the Srinagar wing of the High Court.

The delegation discussed the need for institutional reforms aimed at ensuring equitable participation of women lawyers in the legal fraternity. Issues discussed include challenges faced by women in practicing law, the lack of infrastructural support such as functional rest areas and chambers, safety concerns, and the need for gender-sensitive mechanisms within court premises.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Advocate Heena Sultan emphasized the urgent requirement for policy interventions to foster a more inclusive, secure, and supportive environment for women lawyers. The Hon’ble Chief Justice gave a patient hearing and assured the delegation that the concerns raised would be duly considered, with efforts directed toward constructive reforms.

The interaction reflects a growing recognition of the need to advance gender equity and modernize legal institutions to meet the evolving needs of legal professionals in the Union Territory.(KNS)
