New Delhi, Nov 6 (KNS): The resignation of former National Conference leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi as a Lok Sabha member from Srinagar has been accepted by Speaker Om Birla with effect from November 3, according to an official notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
The notification, dated November 5 and issued under reference S.O. 6067(E) accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) stated that Ruhullah, an elected member from the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency of Jammu and Kashmir, had resigned from his Lok Sabha seat and that his resignation had been accepted by the Speaker with effect from November 3.
With the acceptance of his resignation, the Srinagar parliamentary seat has fallen vacant.
Ruhullah had announced his decision to quit both the National Conference and Parliament on November 3 while addressing a gathering at Behisht-e-Zehra Park in Budgam on the 26th death anniversary of his father, late Aga Syed Mehdi.

He had accused the National Conference leadership of abandoning its electoral commitments, particularly its promise to fight for the restoration of Article 370 and the protection of Jammu and Kashmir's rights.
The differences between Ruhullah and the party leadership had been building over several months, with disagreements also emerging over the reservation policy and the party's political approach following the 2019 abrogation of Article 370.
Ruhullah, who was elected to the 18th Lok Sabha in the 2024 general elections from Srinagar on the National Conference ticket, had earlier represented Budgam in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and served as a minister in the erstwhile state government. (KNS)
