Tourism Secretary Avny Lavasa assesses facilities, discusses plans to attract more business events

Srinagar, Oct 13 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department on Tuesday reviewed the revenue structure, booking position and future plans of the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), as part of efforts to strengthen its role in the region's convention and business tourism sector.

Tourism Secretary Avny Lavasa examined the centre's operational capacity during a visit to the facility in Srinagar and held discussions with its management on improving its functioning and attracting more events.

SKICC Director General Mufti Fareedudin presented details of the centre's bookings, revenue arrangements and proposed development plans.

The discussions focused on expanding SKICC's presence in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism segment, which includes corporate meetings, conventions and exhibitions.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Officials also raised issues concerning the promotion of the centre and its services, while the Tourism Secretary assured departmental support for addressing operational requirements.

Lavasa inspected the infrastructure and facilities to assess the centre's capacity to host major events.

Although the review covered bookings and revenue, the department did not disclose figures relating to earnings, occupancy or the number of events hosted by SKICC.

The meeting was also attended by Special Secretary Tourism Suraj Parkash Rukwal and senior officials from the department's planning and finance wings. (KNS)
