Srinagar, Oct 19(KNS): The J&K Cabinet minister, Satish Sharma, on Sunday said that the revival of the Darbar Move would strengthen economic activity and foster brotherhood between the regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to media, Sharma said the practice, which involves the biannual shifting of government offices between Srinagar and Jammu, has a long history dating back 149 years. “It all started in my time. The honourable Chief Minister’s vision was to revive it. When I took over the government a year ago, I considered the gap of four to five years in the practice and its impact on Jammu and Kashmir relations,” he said.
He noted that misunderstandings can arise when the tradition is not observed. “It has been hundreds of years since the Maharaja started this practice. I often wondered why it did not continue earlier. I cannot answer that fully, but I am satisfied that it has resumed,” Sharma said.
Sharma said the revival has practical benefits for local businesses and service providers. “From hawkers to showroom owners, small businessmen, rickshaw drivers and auto drivers, this is an important development for all of them, on behalf of the Chief Minister,” he said.
He added that the practice would continue and the government intends to maintain the tradition.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“The economy will be strengthened, mutual relations will improve, and there will be opportunities to learn from each other. This is a significant step provided by the Chief Minister during the Diwali season,” he said.
Sharma also spoke about other administrative measures. “We have four years remaining, but there are challenges in two power centres. We are confident that the commitments made from Delhi, including free ridership and transport facilities for women, will be implemented. The Chief Minister has mentioned that a new fleet of buses is being arranged, and adjustments will be made to increase the number of vehicles,” he said.
He referred to the government’s manifesto commitments, including ration distribution to the poorest sections. “We will add more measures this year. Many items in the manifesto require implementation. During this session, the Chief Minister discussed these plans with all ministers. Shortcomings from the last four to six months are being addressed, and we hope to release the final document soon,” Sharma said.
The minister said the revival of the Darbar Move is expected to provide administrative accessibility while improving coordination between Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS).
