Srinagar, Oct 31 (KNS): Residents of Qazipora, Narkara, have expressed serious concern over deteriorating sanitation conditions and defunct streetlights in their locality, alleging that irregular garbage collection, neglected drains and inadequate street lighting have made life increasingly difficult for residents.
Residents said household waste had remained uncollected for weeks, resulting in heaps of garbage accumulating along streets and residential areas.
They alleged that sanitation workers were neither cleaning drains regularly nor ensuring timely removal of waste, leaving the locality exposed to foul smells and potential health hazards.
“The entire locality has virtually turned into a dumping ground. Garbage remains scattered across streets, attracting stray dogs and creating serious difficulties for residents, particularly children and elderly people,” residents said.
Adding to their difficulties, residents said several streetlights in the locality had remained defunct, plunging residential lanes into darkness after sunset and raising concerns over public safety.
They said the absence of functional street lighting, coupled with the growing presence of stray dogs, had made it difficult for people, particularly women, children and elderly residents, to venture outside during evening and night hours.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“On one hand, garbage has turned our streets into breeding grounds for stray dogs, and on the other, defunct streetlights have left the entire area in darkness. Walking through these lanes after sunset has become a serious concern,” residents said.
They further alleged that despite repeatedly bringing sanitation-related grievances to the notice of the concerned Ward Officer, no effective corrective measures had been taken.
Residents appealed to the concerned municipal authorities to immediately restore regular door-to-door garbage collection, undertake thorough cleaning of streets and drains, remove accumulated waste and address the growing stray dog menace.
They also urged the authorities to repair defunct streetlights on priority and ensure proper illumination of residential lanes to prevent inconvenience and potential safety risks.
The residents demanded accountability from the concerned departments and called for immediate intervention to address the longstanding civic problems affecting the locality. (KNS)
