SMC Commissioner orders speedy verification of PMAY-U 2.0 applications

Calls for time-bound disposal of pending cases, transparent beneficiary selection and intensified awareness at ward level

Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNS): Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr Basharat Qayoom on Friday directed officials to expedite verification and disposal of pending applications under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), stressing that eligible households should not face unnecessary delays in accessing housing benefits.

Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of the scheme, the Commissioner assessed the progress of applications, beneficiary verification and measures being taken to facilitate eligible families across Srinagar.

He directed concerned officers to accelerate scrutiny of applications pending at different levels, resolve procedural bottlenecks and ensure that all eligible cases were processed within the stipulated timeframe.

Dr Qayoom emphasised that the implementation of PMAY-U 2.0 must remain focused on reaching deserving households, particularly those belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low-Income Groups (LIG).

He stressed that beneficiary verification should be carried out carefully and transparently to ensure that genuine applicants were not deprived of benefits due to procedural difficulties.

The Commissioner also directed officials to intensify public awareness campaigns at the ward level by organising special camps, facilitating online registrations and providing necessary assistance through ward offices.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He said people must be adequately informed about eligibility criteria, documentation requirements and application procedures to ensure wider participation in the housing scheme.

Highlighting the role of Ward Officers and City Level Technical Cell (CLTC) experts, Dr Qayoom called for greater grassroots involvement to guide applicants, address grievances and assist families facing difficulties with online registration.

He underscored that effective public outreach and facilitation were essential to ensure that no eligible household was excluded because of inadequate information or procedural hurdles.

The Commissioner directed all concerned departments and field functionaries to maintain close coordination and pursue implementation with urgency, ensuring transparent verification and time-bound disposal of applications.

The meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner (Administration), Joint Commissioner (R&E), Assistant Commissioner Revenue, FA/CAO and Secretary SMC, along with the concerned Deputy General Manager of J&K Housing Board.

Tehsildars of North, South, Eidgah, Central Shalteng, Khanyar, Panthachowk and Chanapora, representatives of the District Social Welfare Officer, Srinagar, and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, besides Ward Officers and CLTC experts, also participated in the meeting. (KNS)
