Karra seeks probe into IAS officer's alleged misconduct during Mission YUVA meeting

Urges LG Sinha to order time-bound inquiry, protect woman officer from victimisation

Srinagar, Oct 16 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Friday urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to order a time-bound inquiry into allegations of misconduct by a senior IAS officer towards a woman colleague during a Mission YUVA review meeting held on October 14.

In a letter addressed to the Lieutenant Governor, Karra expressed concern over a video circulating on social media, alleging that a senior IAS officer used inappropriate language towards Beenish Wani and reportedly directed action against her.

He said the incident had raised serious questions about professional conduct and accountability within the administration.

Karra also expressed concern over reported remarks concerning the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), describing it as a vital constitutional institution whose credibility must be protected.

"Any attempt to demean its credibility or undermine public confidence in its functioning deserves to be examined seriously," he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The Congress leader sought the Lieutenant Governor's personal intervention and demanded a fair, time-bound inquiry to establish the facts, examine the complete recording of the meeting and determine whether service rules or standards of conduct had been violated.

He said appropriate action should follow if the allegations were substantiated, irrespective of the position held by the officer concerned.

Karra also urged the administration to ensure that Beenish Wani was not subjected to victimisation or retaliatory action.

"Her professional interests must be protected, and any decision concerning her service should be taken strictly on merit and in accordance with the rules," he said.

Acknowledging the pressures under which the administration functions, Karra said accountability and mutual respect were essential to maintaining the morale of officers and the credibility of public institutions. (KNS)
