Srinagar, Oct 19 (KNS) Medical interns across Jammu and Kashmir on Monday held candlelight protests at government medical colleges and SKIMS Bemina, demanding an early government order on the proposed enhancement of their monthly stipend.
The protests were organised by the All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA) and intern doctors amid growing frustration over the delay in formalising the proposed stipend revision.
An AIMSA representative said a delegation of interns met the Director General, Finance (Budget), and the Officer on Special Duty to the Health and Medical Education Minister at the Civil Secretariat on Monday to discuss the pending issue.
During the meeting, the delegation raised concerns over what it described as contradictory statements on the status of the proposal, procedural delays and the absence of a formal government order.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The representatives also alleged discourteous treatment and said warnings had been issued against those pursuing the demand.
"Interns cannot be expected to wait indefinitely after receiving written assurances," AIMSA president Dr Mohammad Momin Khan said.
The interns urged the government to honour its written commitment and issue the order on the stipend enhancement without further delay.
They warned that continued inaction could lead to further peaceful protests.
Medical interns in Jammu and Kashmir have been seeking an increase in their monthly stipend and a formal notification to ensure implementation of the proposed revision. (KNS).
