Bandipora, Oct 17 (KNS): The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has approved the transfer of a government teacher battling cancer, from Government High School (GHS) Plan to GHS Kaloosa in Bandipora on acute medical grounds, following repeated rejections of her transfer pleas at the district level.

The development comes a day after Kashmir News Service (KNS) reported that the teacher’s transfer request had allegedly been rejected six times by the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Bandipora, since February 2025, despite her ongoing treatment for carcinoma of the nasopharynx.

In an official communication dated October 16, 2026, bearing No. DSEK-B/TS/2511/2026/3494, the Personnel Officer, Dr. Iqbal Hussain Mir (JKAS), conveyed the Directorate’s approval for her transfer to GHS Kaloosa.

The communication, addressed to the Chief Education Officer, Bandipora, referred to the CEO’s earlier letter dated May 22, 2026, regarding the teacher’s representation seeking transfer on medical grounds.

However, the Directorate has directed that, before issuing formal transfer orders, the department must verify that the teacher holds a genuine substantive appointment and that no case is pending against her before the department, any court or any investigating agency.

The approval follows allegations by the teacher’s family that repeated rejections and delays had added to her difficulties while she was undergoing treatment for the serious illness.

According to the family,  She was diagnosed with cancer in February 2025 and subsequently underwent surgeries and chemotherapy.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThey had maintained that she was seeking a transfer to a nearby school to help her manage her medical treatment.

The family had also alleged that she was repeatedly asked to visit the CEO’s office despite her health condition and that her applications were either returned or rejected. They further claimed that an alternative arrangement through mutual transfer had also been declined.

When contacted for the earlier report, CEO Bandipora Rafiq Ahmad Mir said he was unaware of the specific case and sought details for verification. He had also stated that he had personally marked the teacher’s applications for processing under the prescribed procedure.

The issue had also been raised by MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat, who called for a clear policy governing the transfer and posting of government employees suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses. He had expressed concern over delays in decisions affecting employees facing life-threatening diseases.

The Directorate’s approval has now cleared the way for the teacher’s proposed transfer, subject to the stipulated verification and issuance of formal orders.

The case has once again highlighted the need for a transparent and time-bound mechanism to consider transfer requests from employees facing serious medical conditions, while ensuring compliance with applicable service rules. (KNS)
