Srinagar, May 08 (KNS): Indian defence forces repelled a major drone and missile strike attempt by Pakistan across multiple military locations in Northern and Western India late last night.
In a calibrated counter-operation, India reportedly dismantled several Pakistani air defence systems, including one based in Lahore.
Addressing the media at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) briefing on Thursday, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi confirmed that the Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence units had effectively intercepted and neutralised incoming threats from Pakistan.
“In retaliation to these attempted strikes, the Indian military this morning executed a targeted operation against air defence radar installations and systems at several sites inside Pakistan,” Colonel Qureshi said.
“Intelligence confirms the neutralisation of an air defence facility in Lahore.”
Reiterating India’s stance from the previous day's media interaction regarding Operation Sindoor, Colonel Qureshi recalled, “Our response was deliberately limited, precise and non-escalatory. We made it clear that no Pakistani military compounds were targeted. However, any aggression toward Indian military assets will be met with an appropriate response.”
On the night of May 7-8, Pakistan is said to have launched coordinated attacks using drones and missiles on a wide range of military zones, including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Colonel Qureshi said that these hostile aerial objects were efficiently intercepted and destroyed, with debris now recovered from various sites as physical proof of Pakistan's attempted aggression.
The heightened tensions follow the April 22 terrorist assault in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. In a swift military retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, conducting a series of precision missile strikes on nine terror training camps operating within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
“India has acted with remarkable restraint,” a Defence Ministry spokesperson emphasized. “Our objective has been to dismantle terror infrastructure without expanding the conflict. Not a single Pakistani military site was chosen as a target.”
In light of the recent military developments, the Union Government convened an all-party meeting at the Parliament Annexe on Thursday. The aim was to brief political stakeholders on the situation post-Operation Sindoor and the broader strategic environment.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh provided a detailed overview of the military action undertaken in response to the cross-border terror strike.
Top political leaders present at the briefing included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.(KNS)
