Srinagar Police Initiates Action Against Misinformation and Provocative Content Online

Srinagar, May 8 (KNS): Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Srinagar Police has initiated legal action against individuals involved in spreading provocative and false information on social media, posing a threat to public order and national security.

According to official sources, certain unidentified individuals have been circulating misinformation, fabricated stories, and sensitive details about covert operations within Indian territory. These posts are believed to be part of a larger agenda aimed at creating fear, confusion, and unrest among the public.

Authorities said the unauthorised sharing of such sensitive content not only jeopardises national security but also benefits hostile elements. Preliminary assessments have revealed that these materials have already caused concern within sections of the civilian population and could potentially disturb public peace.

Taking swift action, Srinagar Police has identified three individuals in connection with these incidents.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelLegal proceedings have been initiated against Inayat Hussain Rather, son of Mohammad Ibrahim Rather from Shalina near Masjid Sharief Pampore; Rather Arif, son of Gh Nabi Rather from Wanpora Anantnag; and Sheikh Umar Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh from Ichgam Budgam. A case under FIR No. 14/2025, registered at Police Station Shergarhi, has been filed under sections 197(1)(d) and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigations are underway.

Police have urged the general public to avoid sharing unverified information on social media and to immediately report any suspicious content or activity to the authorities. Srinagar Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, public safety, and taking strict action against anyone involved in promoting unrest or unlawful activities.
