Health Minister Slams Absenteeism, Filthy Hospitals During Surprise Visits
Pulwama, July 27 (KNS): Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Masood Itoo on Sunday said a major reshuffle of doctors across Jammu and Kashmir is “unavoidable” to improve patient care and fix the state’s ailing healthcare system.
During a surprise visit to District Hospital Pulwama, Dr. Itoo expressed shock over the unhygienic conditions and staff absenteeism. “Forty doctors are posted here, but only four were present when I arrived. Patients come even on Sundays this is unacceptable,” she told reporters.
Calling for accountability, she said doctors posted at one location for more than three to four years will be shifted to ensure efficiency. “This is essential to improve services.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIf operation theatres remain closed and emergency patients suffer, lives are at risk. Such lapses cannot be tolerated,” she said.
The minister also pulled up hospital staff over poor sanitation. “The foul smell here can make even a healthy person sick, let alone a patient. Cleanliness and basic facilities must improve immediately,” she warned.
Dr. Itoo, who recently inspected Qazigund, SMHS, and JVC Bemina hospitals, said similar issues exist across the Valley. “These bad practices have developed over the last decade. We are committed to putting the system back on track under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s leadership,” she said.(KNS)
