Srinagar, Oct 13 (KNS) : Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) senior leader and Waqf Board Chairperson Dr. Darakshan Andrabi on Tuesday hit back at National Conference chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq over his remarks on Friday sermons, asking who are politicians to decide anything for a better society?
Who are the politicians to decide what is good for the welfare and betterment of society? We have religious scholars whom Allah has endowed with abundant knowledge. They are the ones who can decide better and know better how to bring improvement in society, Dr Andrabi told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) over the phone.
Questioning NC Leader Sadiq's authority to speak on religious matters, she said, Who is Tanvir Sadiq? Is he really more well-read and more knowledgeable than our religious scholars and clerics?
The BJP leader alleged that the NC has never appreciated good work and is always criticising.
Even Dr. Darakshan Andrabi does not have that much knowledge which our God-fearing religious scholars are aware of regarding a better environment. It is their own wish to talk on issues which will help society to grow, she said.
Referring to Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Dr Andrabi said, Who is Tanvir Sadiq to talk when our Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has also focused on these issues?

She said the decision to discuss burning issues during Friday congregational prayers across many masjids was taken jointly by religious scholars themselves.
Earlier, if one imam used to talk on any social issue during the Friday congregational prayer, its impact was not that great. They have now themselves decided jointly that there should be discussion on burning issues across many masjids during Friday congregational prayers so that there will be an impact on the ground. So what involvement does Darakshan have in it? It is the decision of the religious scholars, she said.
So where does the question arise for a politician to speak on it? she added.
Notably, National Conference chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday demanded the withdrawal of an order concerning Friday sermons, alleging that it amounted to interference in religious matters and questioning the authority of the BJP to decide what imams and khateebs should say. (KNS)
