AIP Seeks Amendment of Forester Recruitment Rules, Calls for Recognition of Forestry Graduates

Srinagar, Oct 13 (KNS): Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi has called for an urgent review of the recruitment rules proposed by the Forest Department, with particular emphasis on amending the drafted eligibility criteria for the post of Forester to ensure due recognition of professionally qualified forestry graduates.

In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), AIP said the issue was brought to his attention by the J&K Forestry Students Association and students of the Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K, through a memorandum seeking intervention on recruitment eligibility for various posts in the department.

Inam Un Nabi said that amending the proposed rules for the post of Forester remains the primary objective, while the eligibility criteria for Range Officer and Assistant Director (Forest Protection) also require due consideration.

He stressed that B.Sc. (Hons.) Forestry is a specialised professional qualification involving academic and practical training in forest management, biodiversity conservation, wildlife protection and other technical aspects of forestry. The recruitment framework must adequately recognise this expertise.

“The immediate priority is to ensure that the drafted recruitment rules for Forester do not overlook the very qualification designed to produce trained forestry professionals.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe eligibility criteria must be reviewed fairly, keeping in view the specialised nature of the job and the professional training imparted to these graduates,” Inam Un Nabi said.

He urged the competent authorities to consult forestry experts and relevant academic institutions before finalising the rules. He also called for a review of eligibility criteria for Range Officer and Assistant Director (Forest Protection) posts to ensure appropriate recognition of forestry qualifications.

The memorandum further seeks the inclusion of Forestry as a subject in the Assistant Conservator of Forests examination, its introduction as an optional subject in the JKAS examination and the incorporation of Forestry Science into higher education.

Inam Un Nabi said that recruitment policies should create fair employment opportunities for qualified candidates while strengthening the Forest Department’s technical capabilities. He urged the government to address the students’ concerns and take a timely decision on the proposed amendments. (KNS)
