New Delhi, Oct 11 (KNS): Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Sunday warned those protesting at Jantar Mantar over alleged electoral irregularities that they could end up in jail, while asserting that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would not resign despite the demonstrations.
“Whoever goes to Jantar Mantar will have to go inside,” Athawale said while addressing reporters.
He said protests would not force Kumar to step down, adding that the revision of electoral rolls was necessary to remove deceased voters, duplicate entries and other ineligible names.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Athawale claimed that around 13 crore voter entries had been deleted across the country, including those of people who had migrated and voters registered at multiple places. The figures could not be independently verified.
He also accused the Congress of politicising the voter-roll revision exercise and questioned its objections to the process.
Athawale said electoral rolls must be updated to ensure that only eligible Indian citizens remain registered to vote.(KNS)
