‘Despite court orders, police fails to arrest accused’

Srinagar, Mar 7 (KNS): With tears in eyes, scores of Sadarkoot massacre victims Monday held a protest against the government gunmen who according to them started indiscriminate firing thereby resulted in the killing of seven persons.
However, the protesting families allege that the police department has miserably failed to deliver justice to them. “Despite the court orders, the police seem reluctant to arrest the accused involved in the killings of our beloved ones,” they said.
Men, women, children and old persons assembled in Srinagar’s press enclave and raised slogans against Abdul Rashid Billa, the main accused. They were also holding the banner displaying the picture of Billa, which read: “Wanted: Abdul Rashid Parray alais Rashid Billa”
The protesters also burnt the effigy of Rashid Billa. “Billa should be hanged till death,” they said.
The protesting women wept in Srinagar and said, “Is police hand-in-glove with the main accused. If yes then they will take action on their own but the reluctance of police officials to deliver justice to us is hurting us a lot,” a protester said.
According to the protesters, the family said that Police actually don’t want to arrest the accused and are claiming that the accused is evading the arrest.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Billa walks free and has no threat of police. The seriousness of the police department has been exposed,” they said, adding that Billa threatened them and has said that the top police officials are his close friends and sue to that he will ever get arrested.
A protester while talking to KNS recalls the time and said it was the late evening hours on October 5, 1996, when Billa entered in a residential house and started indiscriminate firing on the civilians resulted in the killings of seven persons while 12 more civilians sustained injuries.
The protesting family, relatives said, “The court has directed police to arrest accused persons by or before November 24, 2015. But the police is distorting facts, saying that accused persons are evading arrest and are not present in the area,” they said, adding, “The accused is very much in the area and police knows it very well.”
The protesters after protesting for more than a hour here dispersed peacefully. (KNS)
