New Delhi, Oct 10 (KNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a case to investigate an alleged mid-air attack on an Indian pilot aboard a flydubai flight last month, in which the aircraft's co-pilot allegedly stabbed and seriously injured the captain inside the cockpit, officials said on Saturday.
The case was registered on October 9 under relevant provisions of the Anti-Hijacking Act, 2016, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, they said.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Indian national Captain Smit Machchhar was allegedly attacked by his co-pilot while operating flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Officials said the attack was suspected to have been carried out in an apparent attempt to hijack the aircraft or cause it to crash.
The incident left the captain seriously injured, prompting the NIA to initiate an investigation under the country's anti-hijacking and anti-terror legislation.
The agency will examine the circumstances surrounding the cockpit attack and the suspected motive behind the incident, officials said.
Further details regarding the accused co-pilot and the progress of the investigation were not immediately available. (KNS)
