Tarigami calls for review of CID verification process, says relatives' alleged militancy links should not deny individuals clearance

Srinagar, Nov 02 (KNS) : CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA M Y Tarigami on Monday called for a review of the CID verification process, saying individuals should not be denied security clearance over the alleged involvement of their relatives in militancy-related activities.

In a post on social media, Tarigami as per KNS said the High Court had, in several cases, ruled that a person cannot be denied security clearance merely because of the alleged involvement of their relatives in militancy-related activities.

He, however, expressed concern that people continue to face difficulties in obtaining CID clearance due to the alleged involvement of even distant relatives in such activities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

"In some cases, those accused died many years ago, but their past continues to affect their families, denying the younger generations opportunities through no fault of their own," he said.

Tarigami said the verification process needed to be reviewed to ensure that individuals were assessed on the basis of their own conduct rather than the alleged actions of their relatives.

While acknowledging the importance of security concerns, he said these should not come at the cost of the rights and future of innocent people. (KNS)
