Pulwama, Mar 04 (KNS): The 35th death anniversary of renowned Kashmiri Sufi poet Ghulam Nabi Shah Zahoor was observed here on Saturday.
The event was organized by Mehfil-e-Bahar-e-Adab Shahoora Pulwama, in collaboration with Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and Radio Kashmir Srinagar in Tumlahall Pulwama.
On the occasion, the members of civil society and poets paid rich tributes to the Sufi poet of South Kashmir.
The function was presided over by Masood Abas Balpuri. Other prominent writers who attended the function were Hamid Ullah Hamid, Rashid Sidiqi and others.
The speakers on the occasion highlighted the contribution of Zahoor. “Zahoor had worked tirelessly to promote Kashmiri culture and encouraged local population in education field,” they said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Zahoor as a poet contributed lot and at the same time he was active social worker, torch bearer for the society. He was a noble soul,” they added.
On the occasion the poetry of Zahoor was sung by the renowned singer Ghulam Mohd Ahange.
Later, a Mehfil-e-Mushaira was held in the memory of Zahoor in which renowned poets of South Kashmir recited their poetic verses. Those who participated in the Mushaira include Rashid Sidiqi, Muntazir Rehman, Mohd Yousif Dildar, Asi Ali Mohd,Ab Majeed Bhat, Abdul Rashid Sadiq, Shahzada Gulzar, Dilshad Ali Mohd, Abdul Rashid Rasheed, Tariq Nisar Rather.
Mementos were also distributed among various educationists, intellectuals and others. Earlier, Fateh Khawani was held at the Mazar of Ghulam Nabi Zahoor. (KNS)
