Stop arrest spree, release ailing separatists without any delay: Hakim Yasin to Govt

Asks Govt to ensure immediate medical checkups of separatist leaders

Srinagar, Oct 17 (KNS): Reminding ruling PDP of its promises when it was in opposition, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin today urged the government to immediately stop the arrest spree across Kashmir and release the ailing separatist leaders without any further delay.
In a statement issued to KNS, Hakim Yasin said, “When PDP was in opposition it would always raise voice against the arrest sprees. Now when the same party is in the power, it has reversed its role and in the last 101 days of unrest, a major crackdown has been launched across the Kashmir Valley where thousands of youths have been arrested.”
“Why has PDP forgotten its promises which it made with Kashmiris during election campaigning? Hundreds of people have been detained under draconian PSA and PDP government is spearheading it,” he said.
The PDF chief asked the government to ensure immediate medical checkups of the separatist leaders who are ailing in jails and also release them as a first step towards the initiation of a meaningful dialogue process.
“There are reports that even aged civilians and minors have also been detained under PSA which is unfortunate in a democracy.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe government should without any further delay release all the political detainees and initiate a meaningful dialogue with all the stakeholders including Hurriyat,” he demanded.
The MLA Khansahib also asked the government not to play politics over holding of board exams in Kashmir. “Students are not academically and psychologically prepared to appear in all-important board exams, but it seems that the government to score political points wants to make them as scapegoats. When the students have not completed even 30 percent of the syllabus how can they appear in exams and score good marks in this time of tough competition,” the MLA Khansahib said.
Urging Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene into the issue, the PDF chief said, “Mehbooba should take a realistic approach must keep in mind that educational institutions were last open on June 30. How will students coup-up when almost 70 percent syllabus is incomplete. Nobody is against conducting of exams, but with other considerations you also have to think about the future of the students.” (KNS)
