Snowfall: Handwara reels under darkness, hotlines out of order too

Handwara, Jan 30 (KNS): The residents of Handwara town in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday alleged that they were reeling under darkness since morning as power development department failed to restore electricity after heavy snowfall in the area. 

The residents said electricity in the whole sub-division of Handwara disappeared this morning, and has not been restored yet.

They said even hotlines of the area were out of order as the area witnessed heavy snowfall. 

“Snowfall also caused damage transmission lines in the town and few transformers were damaged due to snowfall.” 

Meanwhile, officials said they were unable to charge lines due to continuous snowfall.

They said the men were on the job to restore electricity as soon as possible, but due to heavy snowfall, they were unable to restore the power supply. (KNS)
