Sehrai condemns ‘desecration’ of Jamia’s pulpit

Srinagar, Jan 01 (KNS): Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai on Tuesday expressed anguish over the un-Islamic act of ‘desecration’ of historical central Jamia Masjid Srinagar by some disgruntled elements.
Sehrai in a statement issued to KNS said the pulpit of Masjid is meant for spreading the sacred message of the Qur’an and Sunnah and create unity of heart and soul among the Muslim community. “It is unfortunate that some miscreants want to create a wedge in the society,” he said.
Sehrai said such elements are not serving any cause of the people of Kashmir or that of Islam but causing hurdles in it. “Such nefarious activities are a cause of great concern for the entire Muslim,” he added.
“Places of worship and pulpits are signs of Allah and revered seats of our religion and we as Muslims cannot allow anyone to dishonor these places,” he said.
“Waving flags and raising slogans from the pulpit, this action is condemnable and can’t be lauded from the pulpits of historic Jamia Masjid,” he said.
He added that “the motive of these agencies is to weaken the ongoing people’s movement of the right to self determination and these elements are being used to divert this just movement by changing its basic nature and character under the pretense of perusing some global agenda.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
“The mosque has remained the pivotal centre for propagation and promotion of Islamic teachings and values for centuries together and has always played a primary role during the critical periods of Kashmir history and guided the people rightly and in right direction,” he said.
Sehrai said Masjids are so sacred even one cannot discuss worldly things inside. “So, we will not tolerate desecration of our sacred places. The move seems to be backed by some hidden hands,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sehrai expressed his heartfelt condolences and solidarity over the demise of mother of Masood Ahmed Ladoo Rafiabad, Uncle of senior Greater Kashmir Correspondent Abid Bashir Eidgah and brother in-law of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Syed Imtiyaaz Haider, Syed Rasool Mosvi who passed away.
Sehrai prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and forbearance to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss. He also extended his condolence messages to Masood Ahmed and other bereaved families telephonically. (KNS)
