Srinagar, Jan 25 (KNS): Authorities have beefed up the security in the run up to the January 26 functions in the valley, with frisking and searches of vehicles by police and paramilitary forces at busy markets in Srinagar on Monday.
Besides enhancing security around Bakshi Stadium, the main venue of R-day function, stringent security measures have also been taken in districts where the functions will be held.
Reports said that frisking and searches of public vehicles were taken in busy markets around Lalchowk by police and CRPF personnel.
“Frisking and checking of vehicles was being carried out at Panthachowk and Parimpora areas in the city outskirts,” said a witness.
Director General of Police, K Rajendra told KNS that the police has made multi-tier deployments across the state and the police has made full preparations for the day.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“All arrangements have been done. There is no specific input about any attack on the day, but police will still remain alert,” DGP said.
A police official said that additional security personnel were deployed in Srinagar streets and other major towns of Kashmir to keep check on “anti-national elements who might attempt to disrupt the celebrations”.
While Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, will preside over the function in Bakshi Stadium here, deputy commissioners are likely to host the events in district headquarters.
