Srinagar July 26 (KNS): The strike by nearly 300 sanitation workers of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Jammu ended peacefully after a five-day foot march from Jammu to Srinagar. The daily wagers and casual labourers were demanding regularisation of their jobs and resolution of long-pending employment issues.
The workers met Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani and Housing & Urban Development Commissioner Secretary Mandeep Kaur. They presented their demands, including job regularisation, pending provident funds, timely wages, relief for workers injured on duty, and withdrawal of legal cases filed during the strike.
During the meeting, Kaur acknowledged their concerns and assured that the government is working on reorganisation plans for the Directorate of Jammu & Kashmir, including all urban local bodies, to benefit the workers.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelShe said the Director Finance has been directed to reconcile provident fund contributions and correct discrepancies. She also confirmed that cases of injured workers will be sent for financial assistance through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund or other sources.
The workers welcomed the government’s assurances but urged for a time-bound and monitored implementation of the promises. They appealed to the Chief Minister to personally oversee progress.
With these assurances, the sanitation workers suspended their strike, ending the padyatra peacefully in Srinagar, but said their peaceful struggle will continue until all demands are fully met.(KNS)
