Sakina Itoo says NC is a family, dismisses concerns over leadership discontent

Srinagar, Oct 28 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Health and Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Wednesday dismissed concerns over discontent within the National Conference leadership following the recent cabinet expansion, describing the party as a family where differences can be expressed internally.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Minister Itoo said there is nothing unusual about some party leaders expressing displeasure, adding that such differences are part of the democratic process.

"The National Conference is our community. It is a family, and we live like a family," she said.

Drawing a parallel with a family, the minister said members had the right to express their resentment within the household.

"If a child in a family is angry with the parents, they express it within the house. Similarly, if someone is upset, they are expressing their feelings within the party. That is their democratic right," she said.

Minister Itoo rejected suggestions that the discontent indicated a deeper crisis within the party, asserting that the leaders who had expressed unhappiness remained loyal to the National Conference.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

She also criticised the opposition for raising the issue, alleging that it was attempting to capitalise on the cabinet reshuffle because it had no other issues to highlight.

"If there is a cabinet reshuffle, they say people are angry. They have nothing else to talk about," she said.

The minister reiterated that those expressing displeasure were still members of the party and that their concerns should be viewed as an internal matter rather than a sign of a breakdown in the party leadership.

The remarks come after the recent cabinet expansion led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, which saw the induction of four ministers and triggered discontent among some party leaders over the allocation of ministerial berths. (KNS)
