The Teachers Forum Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani Friday issued an ultimatum to the government to revoke the decision of screening test of Rehbar-Taleem teachers (RET) till August 18, failing which he threatened to resort to protests across the state and march towards the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar on August 18.
The ultimatum from Wani came on the second day of the protests held across the state.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) over phone Wani said, “We are giving an ultimatum of 10 days to government. If they don’t agree to our demand, we will be left with no option but to resort to protests and strike. We will also picket Secretariat and state wide protest would be held on August 18.”
While requesting Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syeed to intervene into the matter he said that government should revoke the decision of screening tests of teachers.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“It is a humiliation of teaching community. We will not bear it. The government should take immediate decision on the issue,” Wani said.
The Forum chairman said to start with the state wide agitation, the protest march will start from the Directorate of Education office Srinagar on August 18 towards the Secretariat and simultaneously in Jammu the teachers will protest in Press Club. Separate protests will also be held in the district headquarters, Wani said.
He also condemned the use of force by police against the ReT teachers on Wednesday. “Dozens of teachers were injured and hundreds detained by police on Wednesday. This action will boomerang on the government. They have to submit to our demand. The government cannot crush us by using batons,” Wani added. (KNS)
