Vehicles stuck for hours, commuters suffer

Srinagar, Mar 01(KNS): Inhabitants of Parwaz Mohalla area of Rawalpora in Srinagar on Wednesday staged protest against the government for excluding their area in the drainage project.
The project is being executed by Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (JKERA).
The residents including men, women assembled at the main road and blocked it for hours to press the government for their demands.
The blockage of the road by the protesting residents resulted in the massive traffic jam in the area.
Witnesses said that the hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded in the area as the protesters were not allowing any commuter to move ahead.
“We have been stuck here from last two hours. Even school going children went by foot to their schools,” witnesses said, adding that the traffic mess started at 09:30 today.
They said that the authorities have failed to disperse the protesters thereby leaving the commuters to suffer.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, the protesting residents said that the authorities have excluded the Parwaz Mohalla in the drainage project, which is being executed by JKERA. “Why have we been ignored? Even the officials are misleading the World Bank officials by saying that the colony has been established a few months before due to which it is not in the project,” the protesting residents said.
They said that the authorities must not ignore them and until and unless their area will not be included in it, they will continue to protest against the government.
“We are suffering with each passing day and the authorities are paying no heed to redress our demands. We must be included in the project so that the residents here could feel a sigh of relief,” they said. (KNS)
