Rain, Snow Likely Across J&K From Today Till Oct 15, MeT Issues Advisory for Farmers, Travellers

Srinagar, Oct 13 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir is set to experience a spell of unsettled weather, with the Meteorological Centre here forecasting light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds at many places across the Union Territory from today (October 13) till October 15.

Light snowfall is also expected over the higher reaches during the period, officials said.

The department said generally cloudy weather with light rain at isolated places was expected today, while higher reaches may receive light snowfall.

According to the forecast, generally dry weather with a brief spell of light rain at isolated places is likely on October 16, followed by dry conditions from October 17 to 24.

In an advisory, the MeT department urged farmers to ensure the safe storage of harvested apples, paddy and other crops during October 13-15 in view of the possibility of rainfall and gusty winds.

The department also warned of light snowfall over important mountain passes and roads during the forecast period, and advised travellers, transporters and the general public to plan their journeys accordingly and follow traffic advisories.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

People, particularly those travelling through higher reaches and mountain passes, were advised to remain alert during the period.

Meanwhile, independent weather forecaster Kashmir Weather said that under the influence of a Western Disturbance, light to moderate rain and snow showers are likely at most places across Jammu and Kashmir.

It said the precipitation is expected to be occasional rather than continuous throughout the day, with large breaks expected, and that daytime temperatures are likely to remain below normal.

For October 16-17, the forecaster predicted mostly fine weather, though a few spots, mainly in the higher reaches, could receive a short shower during the afternoon or evening hours.

Dry weather is expected to dominate from October 18 to 22, it said, adding that a short shower at one or two spots cannot be ruled out. (KNS)
