Srinagar, Jul 14 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today held a meeting of legislators and senior party workers ahead of the celebration of its 18th ‘Foundation Day’ here in Srinagar.
The meeting was held at the residence of PDP president and Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was chaired by her in which legislators, ministers and District presidents, Zonal presidents were invited.
PDP veteran and MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig was present during the meeting, but Tasaduq Mufti was did not attend the meeting as he is outside the state.
The participants were asked to make preparations for the foundation day which is to be held on July 30 instead of 28 when the party was founded 18 years ago. Sources said the date has been deferred by two days in view of the Friday on 28 July.
In today’s meeting, only senior party activists and workers were allowed to speak as the leaders and legislators wanted to “know the concerns and grievances of the party workers,” sources said.
A senior leader of the party while talking to KNS said that the meeting discussed the governance and political situation in the state, especially in Kashmir.
Mehbooba Mufti in her address to the leaders and activists told them that the party has been facing challenging situations from the last two years in the Valley due to turmoil and frequent encounters between militants and security forces.

Our party is an alternative to the people of Jammu and Kashmir which was dominated by a single party for decades,” the leader quoted Mehbooba as having said in her address.
“The party is a voice to the people of the state given by late Mufti Sahab who framed a vision to get people out of the difficulties and the morass they have been sunk into during the turmoil,” she said.
She said that “adversaries” are creating turmoil and difficulties for people and the party in political situation and governance.
The legislators and party activists were asked to make the day a success by attending the foundation day and vow to take the mission of the party founder a reality.
Several activists had suggested to celebrate the day in districts of the valley but the party leadership did not agree to it.
“So, it was decided to celebrate the day in Srinagar Headquarter only on July 30 instead of 28,” the leader said.
The party leader said that the leaders and workers pledged to take forward the mission of late Mufti Sayeed with “devotion and commitment”.
While talking about the governance, Mehbooba said that the performance of the minister and legislators will be evaluated on the basis of delivery of public services and utilization of projects approved by the state and centre for development of the state. (KNS)
