NSS holds collaborative awareness camp at GHSS Nishat

Srinagar, Mar 11 (KNS): National Service Scheme (NSS) University of Kashmir organised an awareness programme on 'Health and Hygiene for Women'.

The day-long camp at Govt Higher Secondary School Nishat Srinagar was held on directions of Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan as part of the varsity's week-long celebrations related to International Women's Day.

The programme was organised in collaboration with WISE (Women of India Sustainability and Empowerment Trust), a non-governmental organisation.

The event was led by the Programme Coordinator NSS, Dr Musavir Ahmad, with programme officers Dr Shazia Malik and Dr Waqar.

NSS volunteers from the main campus of University of Kashmir actively participated in the camp.

Dr Mussavir said the programme was conducted to create awareness regarding menstrual health and hygiene among girls studying at the Government Higher Secondary School.

An automatic sanitary napkin dispenser that will allow female students to avail sanitary pads on their own, without any human contact, was installed at the premises for the emergency purpose, he said.

The installation of sanitary napkin dispensers is a major step to help reduce the dropout rates and absenteeism of female students in schools, Dr Mussavir said.

The NSS team thanked the Principal, GHSS Nishat, Mr Ghulam Mohi-ud-din for providing his full assistance for the programme. (KNS)
