Says Azad trying to steal Congress agenda of restoration of Statehood, protection of land, jobs

Delhi September 05 (KNS):  Former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Ghulam Ahmad Mir Monday said that Azad is trying to steal Congress agenda.

Reacting to the Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Jammu speech, Ghulam Ahmad Mir said Congress Party has resolved to continue its fight for restoration of full Statehood, protection of Land and jobs to people of J&K while including these provisions in its core agenda.

People of J&K have realized that it is the Congress Party alone which is fully capable of taking this fight to its logical end, Mir averred.

Mir also referred to State Executive Committee meeting of J&K Pradesh Congress held in Jammu on 17th January 2020 in which the Party has resolved to fight for restoration of full Statehood with Constitutional Guarantees, protection of land, jobs.

Azad cannot distort the facts, he is just trying to mislead people on restoration of Statehood etc, Mir added and reiterated that Congress Party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will leave no stone unturned to bring back full statehood to people of J&K with all constitutional guarantees including protection of land and jobs.

Former JKPCC President expressed surprise over Azad’s speech terming it a blatant move to distort the facts.

Following is the resolution of JKPCC adopted on 17 Jan 2020.

“Jammu,

17th January, 2020.

Resolution

Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee expresses its deep solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir who underwent numerous kinds of curbs and curtailments of their civil rights & liberties during the past over five months, since the unilateral abrogation of its special status under Article 370 of the Constitution of India. The erstwhile state was put into a state of undeclared emergency whereby all mainstream opposition leaders and activists were put to severe restrictions including detentions, some of them under the stringent provisions of law for undeclared periods.

It is worth mentioning that during this period our national leadership led by Shri Rahul Gandhi alongwith leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha and Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad & top leaders of different opposition parties tried to reach out to the people but were denied permission to come out of the Airport at Srinagar, while the Central Government organized a guided tour of delegation of European Union MPs and later some envoys of foreign countries.

As the people of different shades and regions have voiced their concern over these unilateral actions of the Government, of not only depriving the people of the special rights guaranteed under the Constitution but also depriving them of their basic identity with their unique history and culture and dividing the state into two UTs, thereby denigrating the self-esteem of the people of the state and reducing their political status from statehood a phenomena never happened in the 72 years of India’s independence. The Congress reiterates and fully supports the demand for the restoration of full statehood with constitutional safeguards for the lands and jobs and admissions to the professional courses and higher portals of education for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
The party also expresses its grave concern over the continued escalation on the border and LOC, with increased number
of border firing causing causalities of our brave Jawans and civilians along the border including some most barbaric incidents of mutilations of their bodies. While condemning such actions of Pakistan against our soldiers and civilians in the strongest possible words, we urge the Government of India to take all possible and urgent steps to prevent and check Pakistan from indulging in such mischiefs and misadventures on borders.

While the Modi government continues to harp on its diversionary tactics, the most recent being the dispatching of a large team of central ministers to Jammu & Kashmir in view of the growing resentment against the government on various issues and to cover up the failures of the BJP government on various fronts especially the economic crises facing the Jammu and Kashmir, the unprecedented price hike has broken the backbone of the poor and common man. Due to the worst ever economic slowdown coupled with the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir each and every section is facing economic crises be it trade, tourism and industry, the small and medium businessmen and particularly the farmers and unemployed youth who are worst hit by the economic policies of the BJP government and the current situation.

We also urge the Centre Government and UT Administration to shun their discriminatory approach and actions towards all mainstream democratic forces like withdrawal and downgrading of security cover to the prominent leaders of Congress party and other opposition leaders on selective and pick and chose basis in view of the sensitive situations so that they reach out to the people. We are sure that unless the established mainstream political parties and other political entities are not allowed to function and perform their usual political activities, no meaningful and credible political process can take off and succeed.

The meeting in one voice expressed gratitude to Smt. Sonia Gandhi and other top central leadership of the party for their full support and guidance to the party cadres in Jammu and Kashmir at this crucial juncture. As most of our Senior leaders including the PCC president Shri Ghulam Ahmed Mir, former presidents of PCC, former ministers and ex-legislators, Senior functionaries of PCC, DCCs and frontal wings and other top ranking leaders and activists were either put under detentions or sever restrictions and few of them even put in jails meant for criminals & terrorists. We fully stand in solidarity and support of the entire rank and file of the party especially those who underwent numerous restrictions and sufferings during this period including arrest and detentions on false and fabricated grounds.

The party demands:-

Restoration of full Statehood status to Jammu & Kashmir.

Adequate Legal and Constitutional guarantees to safeguard the rights of locals over land, jobs and admissions in professional courses in Jammu & Kashmir.

All leaders and activists of Congress party and other political entities, detained during the period should be released forthwith.

All leaders and activists of Congress party and other political entities, detained during the period should be released forthwith.

All curbs and restrictions on mainstream political parties, their leaders and activists should be lifted to allow them to resume their usual political activities to create a congenial and conducive political atmosphere for a meaningful and credible political process to pave way for holding of early Assembly elections.

The party also demands:-

Adequate compensation to the farmers who have suffered huge loss to their crops especially the paddy crops in the recent heavy rains.

A special employment package for the youth especially fulfilling the promise of 50,000 jobs, announced by then Governor in August, 2019.

Fulfillment of the promises of regularization of adhoc, contractual, daily wagers and other such categories of employees working in different departments for decades.

The border residents be given 5 marlas plots in safer zones as promised by the BJP government.

The refugees of 1947, 1965 & 1971 be released the full amount of ex-gratia”(KNS)
