Muharram processions are being held peacefully in srinagar district : SSP Srinagar

Srinagar, August 07 (KNS): Muharram processions were held peacefully across the district with the attendance of devotees in large numbers.
Speaking to Kashmir News Service KNS, SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal said that there was excellant cooperation between shia devotees and police.
" We didn't use force anywhere today. I guess it would be for the first time that not even a single tear gas shell has been fired till now and lathicharge also not used at all to restrict the Muharram processions," he said.

Notably District administration Srinagar has already notified routes for conducting Muharram Processions and have already been communicated to the community leaders to perform the ceremonies peacefully.

Meanwhile Srinagar Police informed that today's Muharram procession from Guru bazar to Dal Gate has not been allowed this year as well and restrictions are placed for this. People may be facing inconvenience in travel and this is regretted but this is to ensure violence-free 8th Muharram. Historically violence has been seen on 8th violence.
Situation is normal so far and some youth tried to come out at certain places individually on prohibited route but were taken into preventive custody by police without using any force.
Srinagar police again requests people of city to respect rule of law and don't appreciate/endorse any rumour about Procession rally. (KNS)
