Srinagar, April 16 (KNS): Chairman Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has asked the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to get actively involved in order to end the continuous suppression and oppression of the people of Kashmir at the hands of the Indian Army, Paramilitary and Police forces.
In a letter to Iyad Ameen Madani the Secretary General of OIC Mirwaiz has said that “The people of Kashmir for the past seven decades have been struggling for the exercise of their right to self-determination accrued to them under United Nations Charter and the resolutions passed by UN Security Council on Kashmir Dispute and they have given huge sacrifices in terms of life, property and what not for the achievement of this right”.
“However, to deny them their legitimate right, Kashmir is being ruled by the dint of military power, aspirations of the people are being trampled under the jack-boots and their rights usurped by the state’s coercive machinery by using all possible means of suppression and coercion”.
In the letter Mirwaiz has further said, “It appears now that the state power has waged a war against the un-armed civilian population of Jammu & Kashmir. Only in the past few days five un-armed civilians Nayeem Qadir Bhat, Muhammad Iqbal, Jehangir Ahmad Wani, Arif Hussain Dar a class 11 student and a woman Raja Begam were killed whereas dozens injured in the firing by the Government forces on the protestors who were protesting against the reign of terror leashed by the Army, Paramilitary and Police forces on the population of Kashmir. Repeated imposition of curfew and severe restrictions on the movement of the people has virtually turned the entire Kashmir Valley into a large prison. Almost all the resistance leaders have either been placed under house confinement or detained in police stations. The situation is very grim and needs immediate attention to protect the population of Kashmir from the current spree of violence and terror at the hands of the government forces”.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
While expressing gratitude to OIC on the recent measures taken on Kashmir Mirwaiz thanked OIC for supporting the legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu & Kashmir and also for the establishment of the Standing Mechanism of OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) to monitor Human Rights situation in Kashmir as well as the proposal of sending Abdullah Al-Alim special representative of OIC on a visit to Jammu & Kashmir soon.
Meanwhile, Senior Hurriyat (M) leader Bilal Gani Lone Saturday visited SMHS and Barzulla Bone & Joint Hospitals to enquire about the health of those who were injured in the recent forces action. Lone expressed complete solidarity and sympathy on behalf of APHC with the injured and assured them of every possible help.
In the meantime the spokesman of Hurriyat (M) has condemned the imposition of curfew and continuous sever restrictions on the movement of the people in the valley and particularly in district Kupwara as well as most parts of Srinagar city after the recent killing of five persons and injuring dozens in forces firing. The spokesman has termed it as completely fascist and dictatorial.
The Spokesman has also condemned the continuous house confinement of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Chairman Hurriyat (M) for the fifth consecutive day and also the house confinement of APHC leaders Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Javaid Ahmad Mir and APHC Media Advisor Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam besides the continuous detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists including Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Advocate Sheikh Yasir Ahmad, Farooq Ahmad Saudagar, Abdul Rashid Tanki, Muhammad Sidiq Hazaar, Sahil Ahmad War, Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, Ghulam Muhammad, Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, Muhammad Yasir Rangrez, Muhammad Ashraf Shah and Tariq Ahmad Zargar who were arrested by the authorities on 15th April, 2016 at Dargah Hazratbal while staging a protest march.
