Srinagar, Sep 09 (KNS) – Emphasising that the relationship with the Holy Qur’an must transcend beyond memorisation, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Wednesday called for a deeper understanding of its message while underscoring the pivotal role of women in religious education and societal reform.
Addressing a gathering at Jamia Syeda Hafsa Lil-Banat in Hyderpora to mark the completion of Hifz-e-Qur’an by girl students, Mirwaiz congratulated the Hafizat, their parents, teachers and the institution, terming the achievement a "great blessing."
"We must understand its message, reflect upon it and allow it to shape our character and lives," the Mirwaiz said, stressing that memorisation alone is not the ultimate goal but the beginning of a transformative journey with the divine text.
In a significant pitch for women's empowerment in the religious sphere, the senior cleric observed that a knowledgeable and grounded woman exercises a profound influence on her family and society.

The Mirwaiz also laid stress on reconnecting children with Masajid, calling for these places of worship to be transformed into vibrant centres of learning, guidance and community life. He advocated for Qur’an and Seerah classes, dedicated programmes for women and open spaces where young people can freely ask questions, urging that children be welcomed with affection and patience.
He further advised the students to treat their Hifz as the commencement of their lifelong engagement with the Qur’an, encouraging them to pursue its meaning, Tafsir and Seerah, while simultaneously acquiring contemporary education and serving society at large. (KNS)
