Kargil, Oct 17 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has laid the foundation stones for two water reservoirs with a combined storage capacity of 60–70 lakh litres in Barchay and Apati villages of Sodh tehsil in Kargil district, with the projects targeted for completion by the end of November.
The initiative under Project Him Sarovar aims to address acute water scarcity in the area, support agricultural activities and strengthen rural livelihoods, as water shortages have affected farming and contributed to migration from some villages.
During his visit to the area on September 2, the Lieutenant Governor had taken stock of the water crisis and its impact on agriculture and local livelihoods. He subsequently directed the district administration to identify potential water sources, including nearby glacier streams, to ensure a more reliable supply.
The project envisages channelising nearby glacier streams to meet the water requirements of local communities and improve irrigation facilities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
