Srinagar, Sep 18 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday flagged off the annual Harmukh-Gangbal Yatra from Naranag in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, marking the formal commencement of the pilgrimage to the sacred Gangbal Lake in the Harmukh mountain range.
Rajouri-Poonch Lok Sabha MP Mian Altaf Ahmad, Kangan MLA Mehar Ali and senior police and civil administration officials were present at the flag-off ceremony.
The yatra commenced from Naranag amid tight security arrangements put in place by the administration and security agencies for the movement of devotees along the mountainous route leading to Gangbal Lake, situated at the foothills of Mount Harmukh.

The annual pilgrimage, undertaken by Kashmiri Pandits and other devotees, involves a trek through the higher reaches of the Harmukh range before reaching the lake.
Officials said the administration had undertaken preparations in advance, with arrangements reviewed by senior divisional and district officials. Focus was laid on security, medical assistance, sanitation, drinking water and other facilities along the route.
The flag-off by the Lieutenant Governor marked the formal start of this year's pilgrimage, with devotees setting out for the sacred lake, officials added. (KNS)
