Srinagar, Dec 27 (KNS): Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) on Thursday launched a special demolition drive in Srinagar areas.
The statement issued to KNS reads that he drive was launched in several areas including Syed colony Nishat, Reshi Mohalla WFR, Jogilanker Rainawari, Nigeen near NIT, Habak and other adjoining areas during which many illegal structures and tin sheds were demolished.
"Violators taking advantage of strikes and restrictions had raised these illegal structures," LAWDA officials said.
According to Enforcement Officers at LAWDA, the demolition drive will continue with full vigor to remove all the illegal structures including palatial huts that have come up along the non-permissible zone in the catchment area of Dal Lake.
He said the encroachments are being removed in pursuance to the directions of the High Court, which has called for removal of all the illegal structures from the area.
Enforcement officer further stated legal action was also initiated against the owners of houses and other structures which have come up in violation of the Master Plan in and around the Lake.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
"Despite repeated warnings, several greedy and vested interests are frequently trying to raise illegal constructions around the Dal and Nigeen lakes. They should desist from raising such constructions and cooperate with the department or face action," he said.
"It also warned the truckers against carrying construction material to the area. The vehicles plying in the area without permission will be seized and action initiated against the owners," the statement added.
The public residing within the LDA jurisdiction are hereby directed that not to go for any sort of illegal constructions.
As the Enforcement wing will continue with demolition of illegal constructions. Moreover all the Tipper/Load carrier owners are directed not to carry constructional material in the prohibited area of Dal/ Nigeen Lake without permission," the statement said, adding that all the unscrupulous elements creating hurdles during demolition of illegal constructions will be dealt under law.
