Srinagar, Jul 25 (KNS): The Kashmir valley today observed shutdown against the arrests of seven Hurriyat members by NIA yesterday on the call of Joint Resistance Leaders.
Shops, business units were shut, while thin movement of public and private transport was seen on the major roads in towns and the Srinagar city. Thin attendance of students was also observed in government and private schools across the valley.
In Old City parts, the District administration had ordered restrictions under section 144 of the CrPC in the old city area including Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, MR Gunj and Safa Kadal.

No reports of protests reached from any area of the valley during the day, a police official said, adding that situation was peaceful and less response was observed to the separatist shutdown call.
The shutdown was called after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested seven Hurriyat leaders in hawala funding and disturbing situation in the valley.
The arrested include Altaf Ahmad Shah, son-in-law of Geelani, and Ayaz Akbar, spokesman of the Geelani-led Hurriyat group, and Peer Saifullah, Personal secretary of Geelani. The others include Nayeem Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bitta Karate, Shahid-ul-Islam, close aide of Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Mehrajuddin Kalwal. (KNS)
