J&K Traffic Police Launch Drive Against Pressure Horns

Jammu, Apr 5 (KNS): The Traffic Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday launched a strict enforcement drive against the use of pressure horns across the Union Territory, officials said.

The drive has been initiated under the directions of the Inspector General of Police (Traffic), J&K, to curb noise pollution and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

Officials said the Supreme Court of India, in its directions issued on December 10, 2013, had banned the use of all types of pressure horns in vehicles.

They said the use of such horns is an offence under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which may attract a fine of up to Rs 10,000 and imprisonment of up to six months.

Despite the legal provisions, authorities have observed that pressure horns, including air horns, multi-toned horns, hooters and other non-compliant sound devices, are still being used, causing public nuisance and inconvenience.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The Traffic Police has advised motorists to refrain from using unauthorised sound devices, remove such equipment from their vehicles and comply with Rule 119 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

Officials said traffic units across Jammu and Kashmir have been directed to intensify checking drives, particularly in congestion points, highways and urban areas, and take strict legal action against violators.

They also urged the public to cooperate with the authorities and report violations to the nearest traffic control units.

The Traffic Police said the initiative aims to ensure a noise-free and safer environment for commuters.(KNS)
