J&K Judicial Academy Organises Orientation Programme on ICT, e-Courts, and AI

 Jammu, Jan 31 (KNS) : Under the patronage of the Hon’ble Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Arun Palli of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and with the guidance of the Hon’ble Chairperson and Members of the Governing Committee for the J&K Judicial Academy, a One-Day Orientation Programme was held today at the Academy in Janipur, Jammu.

 
The programme, focused on “ICT & e-Courts Induction for Newly Recruited Civil Judges (ECT-17-2025)” and “Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on the Judiciary,” aimed to equip judicial officers with essential technological knowledge.
 
In his inaugural address, the Chief Justice, who also serves as Patron-in-Chief of the Academy, stated that the judiciary is entering a decisive phase where technology and justice delivery are inextricably linked. Citing recent observations by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, he noted that Artificial Intelligence and digital platforms will play an increasing role in monitoring case pendency, data analysis, and case management. His Lordship emphasised that for officers in remote and challenging districts, technology is not merely an aid but a vital instrument for ensuring timely and effective justice. He urged participants to adopt technology with confidence to strengthen the justice delivery system.
 
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Judge of the High Court and Chairperson of the Academy’s Governing Committee, delivered a special address. He observed that AI is increasingly being used in adjudication, including as an aid in drafting judgments. While acknowledging its merits in enhancing research, analysis, and efficiency, Justice Oswal highlighted its inherent limitations.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe cautioned that AI should be used as a supportive tool, not a substitute for human reasoning, and stressed that judicial officers must employ it with their own intellect and discernment.
 
The programme began with an introductory address by Mr. Naseer Ahmad Dar, Director of the J&K Judicial Academy, who welcomed dignitaries and participants and outlined the event's objectives. Mr. M.K. Sharma, Registrar General, and Mr. Rajeev Gupta, Registrar Vigilance of the High Court, along with other registry officers, attended the inaugural session.
 
The technical sessions provided practical insights:
 
· Session-I, led by Mr. Umesh Sharma, Registrar (IT), offered an overview of the e-Courts Project and a practical demonstration of the Case Information System (CIS).
· Session-II, conducted by Mr. Faizan I Nazar, CPC, e-Courts, deliberated on rules governing ICT, e-Filing, Nyay-Shruti, NSTEP, and e-True Copies.
· Session-III featured an insightful virtual lecture by Dr. Karnnika A. Seth, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, on “Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on the Judiciary,” covering opportunities, challenges, and ethical considerations.
 
The programme concluded with an interactive feedback session and a vote of thanks by the Academy Director. The active engagement of the newly recruited Civil Judges reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to continuous judicial education and capacity building. (KNS)
