JAMMU, Feb 28 (KNS) ; In a major policy shift aimed at boosting parcel revenue and enhancing logistics efficiency, the Railways has permitted the trans-shipment of goods from one train to another at select stations across the country, a move that is expected to significantly reduce transit times for traders and e-commerce companies.
According to new guidelines issued by the Railway Board, the facility of trans-shipment—the transfer of consignments between dedicated parcel trains and leased parcel vans—will now be allowed at specific notified locations. The reform overturns the previous restriction that prohibited the reloading of parcels onto different trains, which often led to delays and logistical bottlenecks for merchants.
The decision is designed to streamline the supply chain, particularly for time-sensitive goods. By allowing the interchange of parcels at identified hubs, the Railways aims to offer a more seamless service, effectively connecting various routes even when direct trains are not available.
"The primary objective of this initiative is to promote ease of doing business," stated an official release from the Northern Railway's Jammu Division.

This reform is anticipated to be a game-changer for small businesses and the agricultural sector, facilitating the faster movement of perishable items and other urgent consignments to any corner of the country.
Highlighting the operational benefits, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Mr. Uchit Singhal, said, "The Railways' primary goal is to reduce transit time for parcel logistics. Previously, parcels were delayed due to lack of direct connectivity. Now that trans-shipment is permitted at specific stations, we will be able to connect various routes. This will not only increase the Railways' operational efficiency but also help small traders and e-commerce companies ensure safe and quick delivery of their goods." (KNS)
