Demands release of thousands of innocent Kashmiris in jails without trial
Srinagar, July 31(KNS): J&K Awami National Conference Senior Vice President Muzzafar Shah on Thursday raised serious concerns regarding the aftermath of the recent Harwan encounter, asserting that if the slain individuals were indeed the actual perpetrators behind the Pahalgam tragedy, as claimed by the Union Home Minister, the government must answer the arbitrary demolition of civilian homes that followed.
In a statement issued to KNS, Shah questioned the rationale behind the demolition of nearly a dozen residential structures, stating, “If it has now been established that the terrorists involved were foreign nationals and the Lieutenant Governor had already taken responsibility for the security lapse, then why were innocent civilians made to bear the consequences of an incident with which they had no connection?”
He termed the demolitions as “premature and unjustified,” suggesting they were carried out hastily to deflect public anger and present a semblance of swift action.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“What appears increasingly clear is that the demolition of homes was not an act of justice, but a politically motivated measure aimed at managing public sentiment.
The government must offer an unconditional apology to the poor and marginalized families, reconstruct their houses which were reduced to rubble under a false pretext,” Shah stated.
Highlighting another long-standing grievance, Shah also called for the immediate release of all those innocent individuals who have been detained without trial for years.
“Thousands continue to languish behind bars without due process. It is high time the government demonstrates its commitment to justice by ensuring their release,” he said.
He concluded by urging the administration to adopt a transparent, accountable, and humane approach to governance, warning that continued silence on such grave matters would only deepen public distrust.
