1,200 KG of Spoiled Meat Seized and Destroyed in Srinagar

Srinagar, July 31 (KNS): In a major crackdown on unsafe food practices, the Food Safety Department Srinagar, along with the Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO), seized and destroyed 1,200 kilograms of spoiled meat from a storage facility in Srinagar.

Acting on specific intelligence, a joint enforcement team led by Assistant Commissioners Hilal Ahmad Mir (ICLC) and Yameen Ul Nabi, along with Food Safety Officers, conducted a surprise raid. During the inspection, officials found large quantities of foul-smelling, stale meat allegedly meant for market distribution.

The contaminated meat was destroyed on the spot under official supervision to prevent any public health risks. Legal action will be taken against the responsible Food Business Operators (FBOs) under the Food Safety and Standards Act.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Officials stated that this operation reflects the department’s strong commitment to public safety. Strict instructions from Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, and Commissioner FDA, Smt. Smita Sethi, have been issued to maintain a close watch on market activities.

The department also urged all FBOs to follow proper temperature control measures for perishable items to avoid spoilage. Non-compliance will invite strict legal action.
