The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Friday quashed the detention of Muslim League chairman and senior separatist leader Masrat Alam under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Justice Hasnain Masoodi today announced in open court in Srinagar that he has quashed the detention order issued by state government under the PSA against Masrat Alam and the detailed order would follow. Masoodi had reserved the judgement on the petition filed by Alam’s family members seeking quashing of the PSA slapped on Alam on April 18, following a rally addressed by Hurriyat (G) chairman in which Alam was alleged to have waved Pakistan flags and raised anti-India slogans.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAlam was detained
Alam’s relatives had challenged his detention order in the high court through senior advocate Mian Qayoom, spokesman of Muslim League Rafiq Gania told KNS.
He said Alam had been released in March from detention. “Earlier Alam was released after serving a detention of four and half years, but his freedom was short lived of only 40 days, after which he was detained again on PSA,” Ganai added.
