Handwara villagers setup public library on new year eve

Handwara, Jan 01 (KNS): On the eve of new year a public library was inaugurated on Sunday by villagers of Chogal in Handwara area of north Kashmir's district Kupwara. 


The library was setup in the name of Late Headmaster Peer Ghulam-din alias Arif, a renowned poet and educationist. 

The villagers told Kashmir News Service (KNS) said it was set up to train students for competitive exams, to fight the social evils and to promote morality among children. 

In the library, which has been set up in a Masjid, around 70 books on varied subjects, including competitive exams, entrance, religious and books on different academics have been kept available. 

Locals said Peer Ghulam-din was a renowned educationist, he had vast footprints in the field of education and to carry forward his legacy, they decided to setup the library in his name.

“Initially we started with 70 books only, but in the future it will be expanded with more books on varied subjects, for entrances and for competitive exams.” 

A local Fayaz Ahmad said they have locally collected donations from volunteers to buy the books and they are planing to buy more books. 

Another resident said number of youth are indulged in drugs and other immoral activities, the access to libraries and books is the need of hour to engage them in reading books. 

“We started this initiative on the eve of new year, with a new hope to build the future of our youth.”

The library was inaugurated in the presence of senior citizens and local children also participated in the event. (KNS)
