Srinagar, Dec 14 (KNS) : President of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and former Minister, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, on Saturday met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan and raised several pressing developmental and public welfare issues concerning different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with special emphasis on Budgam district and other neglected rural areas.
In a statement issued ,During the meeting, Hakeem Yaseen apprised the Lieutenant Governor of the hardships being faced by people due to inadequate infrastructure, rising electricity tariffs, and lack of basic amenities. He said that many areas, particularly Khag subdivision, have remained neglected for decades and continue to suffer from poor road connectivity, erratic power supply, shortage of drinking water, and weak health and education facilities.
The PDF president urged the administration to review the recent hike in electricity charges and provide relief to economically weaker sections. He stressed that people in rural and far-flung areas are being charged high electricity bills despite prolonged power cuts, which has added to their financial burden.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe also sought special concessions for poor and backward areas.
Hakeem Yaseen highlighted the urgent need to strengthen the health sector, calling for the revival and proper functioning of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and other medical facilities.
He also demanded the reopening and upgradation of educational and skill development institutions, including Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), to ensure better opportunities for local youth.
Raising the issue of unemployment, he emphasized that lack of sustainable livelihood options has pushed many young people into uncertainty. He urged the government to launch targeted employment and skill development programmes in rural areas to curb distress and migration.
The former minister also drew the LG’s attention to the prolonged ban on tourist activities at popular destinations such as Doodpathri, Yousmarg and Tosamaidan. He said the restrictions have severely affected families dependent on tourism-related activities and appealed for the immediate reopening of these destinations, citing improved security and normalcy in the region.
Hakeem Yaseen expressed hope that the Lieutenant Governor would take prompt and effective steps to address the issues raised and ensure balanced, inclusive development across Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS)
