Handwara, Jun 5 (KNS); Rajya Sabha member Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan on Friday expressed concern over the damage to crops and orchards due to a hailstorm in Upper Rajwar and its adjoining areas in Handwara, demanding immediate compensation for affected farmers.
The sudden hailstorm struck the region on Friday morning, causing extensive damage to standing crops and horticulture produce.
In a statement issued here, the Rajya Sabha MP said the losses have severely affected the farming community, which depends primarily on agriculture and horticulture for its livelihood.
MP Ramzan urged the district administration to depute teams from the Agriculture, Horticulture, and Animal Husbandry departments for a comprehensive assessment of the damage, adding that the survey should be followed by prompt relief measures.

He also appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene in the matter and ensure adequate compensation and other possible assistance to affected farmers at the earliest.
“Timely intervention is essential to help farmers recover from their losses and prevent long-term economic hardship,” MP Ramzan said, calling for coordinated action by the administration and the agriculture department to provide immediate relief to all affected families. (KNS)
