G20 Seminar on Gender Justice at Department of English, SHLA, CLUJ

Srinagar March 31 (KNS):  Department of English, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu organised G20 Seminar on “Understanding Gender and Gender Justice” for the students of the department.

Dr. Kavita Suri, Professor and former Director, Department of Life Long Learning, University of Jammu was the Resource Person for the event. Dr. Twinkle Suri, Head, Department of English formally welcomed the Resource Person appraised the audience that we all see gender as a spectrum towards building a harmonious social order instead of two sets of opposing ideals.She added the purpose of the Seminar is to raise awareness and understanding of gender equality issues, and to promote strategies and solutions for achieving gender equality in all spheres of life.

Prof. Kavita Suri in her highly jubilant and interactive session elucidated the concept of gender justice in a very effective and lucid way with the help of varied video clips followed by power point presentation. During her interactive session, she exhorted how stereotypical norms operate in a very subtle way in our everyday life and emphasized that equality for women is progress for all. She interacted with the students and conducted a brain storming session to clarify the doubts as well as performed numerous activities to incorporate gender neutral thinking among the students. She asserted that only Gender Equitable society can achieve the goal of Gender Justice which is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a progressive, productive, prosperous and sustainable world order.

The event was graced by Dr. Geetanjali A. Rana, Dean Arts who stressed that Gender Sensitization is very important for the students who are the ambassadors of change in the society. The Seminar was Coordinated by Dr. Indu Sharma, Dr. Himanshi Vashishat and Ms. Kamaljot Kour and the programme was hosted by Ananya Sharma, Student of Vth Semester.(KNS)
